Yes and in a way I think it was better they had no time to worry about petty thing and no time to get depressed and no time to waste. I come from a family of farmers my dad was the first going back 5 generations - (far as I could google my ancestry) that did not end up being a farmer. My great grandmother married into a pentecostal clan she grew up Amish Mennonite and had been that way for at least 4 generations before her. They were up when the sun came up working all day in the fields wives taking care of the home and cooking all the meals an not to mention all those kids running around. By the time you hit 5 you were considerably contributing to the family.
